" | I know it's soon but... think you'll ever love again? Maybe you won't kill your next family... | „ |
~ The Joker's last words before being brutally killed by Superman. |
" | I love what you've done with the place. Arkham has never looked better. Dear members of the Joker Clan... You know the truth about the Metropolis Incident. Superman killed those people. Then he tried to kill me. I admire the work you've done in my name... disturbances... distractions... general pains in Superman's buttocks. But let's think bigger... Harley tells me Superman made this pill for his thugs. Then Bat-Boy's Insurgents got some. Now we have them too. With these a bus can fall on us and we won't be hurt! Slapstick at its finest! From now on we'll be more than a nuisance. The barking dog will become the rampaging elephant. The whoopie cushion, a land mine! The Joker... a king! | „ |
~ Joker's speech to the Joker Clan. |
" | Oh, Harley! Always such a disappointment! Why do I bother!? | „ |
~ Harley's hallucination of Joker in Injustice 2. |
" | Oh, no. This time, the joke's on you. And the world will burn. | „ |
~ Joker telling Batman he has succeeded in turning Superman into a twisted and corrupted superhero. |
" | Now that's... a punchline. | „ |
~ Joker's final words in the Injustice film. |
The Joker is the posthumous overarching antagonist of the Injustice franchise, appearing as the opening antagonist of Injustice: Year Zero, the posthumous overarching antagonist of the Injustice: Gods Among Us video game, comic series, and the Injustice 2 comic series, as well as a posthumous antagonist in Injustice 2 video game. He is also the posthumous antagonist of the animated film adaptation Injustice. He's the archenemy of Batman, Harley Quinn and the entire Bat-Family.
Wanting to plunge the world into chaos and torment Batman, Joker sought to corrupt Superman by orchestrating the death of his pregnant wife Lois Lane and the destruction of Metropolis. These actions successfully drove Superman insane, but also drove him to murder Joker in retribution, leading to him become a delusional fascist enforcing peace through fear and brutality, becoming the tyrannical ruler of Earth and killing any and all who opposed him. This ultimately causes the Justice League civil war that lasts 5 years and kills many superheroes, and millions of innocents in the crossfire. It also results in heroes and villains alike resenting the clown for everything he's done.
Additionally the Joker of the Main Universe also appears in the Injustice Universe during the events of Injustice: Gods Among Us. The Injustice Joker also reappears in Injustice 2 as a hallucination, with his actions still causing problems several years after his "masterpiece" resulted in the Regime's creation.
He was voiced by Richard Epcar, who also played him in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe and Mortal Kombat 11, and also voiced Cornelius Holden in Mafia III. In the animated film, he was voiced by Kevin Pollak, who also portrays Jack Riley in Dr. Dolittle 2 and Fracture in Transformers: Robots in Disguise.
Personality
After he got tired of trying to break Batman he went to trying to break Superman tricking him into killing his unborn wife and child and destroying Metropolis. He did this all so he could prove that anyone could turn evil from just one bad day, which is what is implied to have happened to him at some point. In the end, he got exactly what he wanted and managed to turn Superman into an insane dictator who took over the world.
The Joker completely lacked empathy never showing any remorse for the millions of people he killed during his destruction of Metropolis. He never even showed any love for Harley constantly abusing her manipulating her and only viewed her as a pawn that he would discard at will. Even Harley knew how horrible of a father the Joker was so she kept his daughter secret from him.
Unlike many versions of the character, The Joker lacks the same humor and charm that many of his other versions have. He is a pure Hate Sink earning the hatred of nearly every single character in the franchise even the worst villains absolutely despise The Joker. Even Harley began to saw how truly evil The Joker was despite initially still supporting and loving him even after his destruction of Metropolis and eventually got over him.
Quotes
Trivia
- He was the first villain to be killed by Superman.
- For some reason, his first alternative costume is named Insurgency despite the fact that he never joins Batman's group apart from working with the Injustice version of Harley.
- While he only physically appeared once, the Joker is the main antagonist of the entire Injustice series as his corruption of Superman caused the events of the series. It's also highly implied Joker planned his own death to ensure Superman's corruption. Furthermore, his main universe counterpart also almost pulled a comparable scheme on behalf of Lex Luthor and makes the Insurgency's attempts at stopping The Regime more complicated.
- Almost every villain in the Injustice universe absolutely despised the Joker and even blamed him for Superman's descent into tyranny - from tricking the Man of Steel into killing his own wife and unborn child, nuking Metropolis to provoking Superman into ultimately killing him for his own sick amusement. Even Brainiac of all people (who is as vile as the Clown Prince of Crime) considers him a cancer that deserved to be neutralized, and Harley Quinn willingly strayed from him during the events of the game after realizing his utter depravity. On the other hand, Scarecrow only hates him for stealing Fear Toxin from him on top of killing him. Therefore, he only thinks Joker went too far for selfish reasons. The same applies to the heroes with even Batman stating that while he did not approve of Superman murdering the Joker, he couldn't blame him and was more upset over what happened afterwards and that Superman ended up proving Joker right by becoming a tyrant.
- Because of this, he is often considered as the most evil version of the Joker ever made. He is also one of the most disliked; not because people hate him, but because he lacks most of his typical, more comical traits and some dislike the concept of him being the one who corrupted Superman.
- And yet, funny enough, in Injustice: Year Zero, Issue 4, it's revealed that even THIS Joker has standards, when he reveals that he hates Nazi's, a nod to a 1997 Batman/Captain America crossover where Joker teams up with the Red Skull, only to terminate it when he learns that the Red Skull is an actual Nazi.
- It's taken even further in Mortal Kombat 11 where all the Kombatants are not happy to see him and despise him as well, most of the villains do not take him seriously and the heroes are disgusted by his act in Metropolis (or for those who met him in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe) are angry that he's even here in the realm in the first place, with Sheeva stating he has somehow done the impossible, he's united all the realms just to end his tyranny and while Kronika is pure evil as well she didn't go on a mass murder like he did Metropolis, something even she is disgusted by.
- Like most of his newer incarnations, he speaks with a Midatlantic accent. However, this is one of the few games where he isn't voiced by Mark Hamill.
- He has a daughter with Harley named Lucy, but he doesn't know she exists. This is because even before she realized that he was nothing more than a monster who never loved her, Harley knew that Joker would be a horrible father and thus, decided to act more like an aunt towards Lucy until she was old enough to know the truth.
- He is 32 years old. This puts him at around Batman's age in this universe.
- In Injustice: Year Zero, it is revealed that the real reason why Joker drove Superman to madness is because Batman told the Joker that no matter what kind of power Superman is influenced by, he cannot be corrupted. Joker proved Batman wrong with what he did to Metropolis and died at Superman's hand, knowing that he's proven his point and he's successfully claimed victory over his nemesis.
- Joker is one of the main reasons why Superman became the tyrannical villain he is today. The other is Wonder Woman, who encouraged his excessive actions after the Metropolis incident.
